Korean Dramas, 2015

ⓚⓞⓡⓔⓐⓝ ⓓⓡⓐⓜⓐ

a collection of the dramas that I have watched
Hyde Jekyll, Me 하이드 지킬, 나
Hyun Bin as Gu Seo-jin/Robin
Han Ji-min as Jang Ha-na
Sung Joon as Yoon Tae-joo/Lee Soo-hyun
Lee Hyeri as Min Woo-jung

Koo Seo-Jin (Hyun-Bin) has two different personalities. One of his personalities is cold like Hyde and the other is sweet like Jekyll. He works as the director of theme park Wonderland. Jang Ha-Na (Han Ji-Min) works as the master and actress of a circus at Wonderland. Koo Seo-Jin tries to kick the circus out of Wonderland and Jang Ha-Na reorganizes the circus to stay. In the process, Jang Ha-Na falls in love with Koo Seo-Jin.

My Thoughts
An interesting concept about spilt personalities. Initially, I really like Robin's personality but towards the middle, I found myself rooting for Gu Seo-Jin instead as he fell in love with Ha Na and changed his character for her. The power of love!
The Producers 프로듀사
Kim Soo-hyun as Baek Seung-chan
Cha Tae-hyun as Ra Joon-mo
Gong Hyo-jin as Tak Ye-jin
IU as Cindy

At the centre of Yeouido, there is a building which never goes to sleep 24/7; it's Korean Broadcasting Station (KBS). And inside this building, on the 6th floor, people are busy working between the partitions who produce renowned variety shows. Here, which seems to be an ordinary office, the highly educated are being treated as fools when their programs record low ratings even after hectic work schedule of filming, editing and all-night meetings. This drama features various anecdotes about producers and non-producers happening in Entertainment department.

My Thoughts
Light-hearted drama produced by the variety department, with an A-list cast to boost. Through this drama, I learned a lot on how K-variety shows are produced. Now, I appreciated the PDs and writers more. Kim Soo Hyun shines again as rookie PD and most of the times, I find myself chuckling to the silly acts that he pulled through effortlessly.
Twenty Again 두번째 스무살
Choi Ji-woo as Ha No-ra
Lee Sang-yoon as Cha Hyun-seok
Choi Won-young as Kim Woo-chul
Kim Min-jae as Kim Min-soo
Son Na-eun as Oh Hye-mi

Ha No-ra once dreamed of becoming a dancer, but she unexpectedly became pregnant at age 19 and had to quit school and get married. For the next two decades, her life revolved around being a housewife and mother. Now 38 years old and on the brink of divorce, No-ra is mistakenly diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and given a six-month prognosis. So she decides to go back to school and experience college life for the first time. Among the incoming freshmen are her own 20-year-old son Kim Min-soo and his girlfriend Oh Hye-mi, who are horrified to have No-ra as their classmate. Unknown to No-ra, her intellectual snob husband Kim Woo-chul recently accepted a job teaching psychology at the same university, and her prickly theater arts professor turns out to be Cha Hyun-seok, who had a crush on No-ra in high school.

My Thoughts
What would you do if you had a 2nd chance in life? To pursue your dreams and live it just as you wished? Nonetheless, this drama was slow and draggy - full of duh moments that it was painful to even complete the series. Watch this if you ran out of other options.
Reply 1988 응답하라 1988
Lee Hyeri as Sung Deok-sun/Sung Soo-yeon
Park Bo-gum as Choi Taek
Go Kyung-pyo as Sung Sun-woo
Ryu Jun-yeol as Kim Jung-hwan
Lee Dong-hwi as Ryu Dong-ryong

In 1988, Duk-Sun (Hyeri), Jung-Hwan (Ryoo Joon-Yeol), Sun-Woo (Ko Gyung-Pyo) and Dong-Ryong (Lee Dong-Hwi) are high school students and Taek (Park Bo-Gum) is a go player. These five people have been friends since they were little kids. They all grew up together and are neighbors to this day. Their families are also very close to each other. They always hang around Taek's room and spend time together.

My Thoughts
The Reply series never fail to deliver! The 3rd installment of the series focuses more on family ties and friendship instead and of course, I wiped buckets at a lot of the touching family scenes. This series portrayed the kampung spirit which is very rare in today's society. Park Bo Gum shines as Taek and his smile brightens up the scene, so that makes him my favourite, lol!
Hello Monster 너를 기억해
Seo In-guk as Lee Hyun / David Lee
Jang Na-ra as Cha Ji-an
Choi Won-young as Lee Joon-ho / Lee Joon-young
Park Bo-gum as Jung Sun-ho / Lee Min

Genius profiler Lee Hyun (Seo In-guk), returns home to Korea after something from a case he’s been sent triggers a memory he thought he’d lost forever. Unknown to him, one of his team members, Detective Cha Ji-an (Jang Na-ra), has been investigating him for some time. She is aware that his father was murdered and his brother disappeared under mysterious circumstances involving a criminal named Lee Joon Young (Choi Won-young) -- whom they both want found and incarcerated. Each seeks to unravel the other, unaware that they’ve been drawn into a dangerous game of cat and mouse by a master player and that both truth and evil are closer and far more twisted than they think.

My Thoughts
I started this drama without any expectations, but was glued to the TV episode after episode trying to figure out who was the killer. The suspense was so intense and the questions raised throughout the show was thought-provoking as well. The chemistry between the leads were good, but of course my favourite goes to Park Bo Gum! He's really good as a young actor, his expressions changed from chilly to innocent to heartbreaking effortlessly. Thumbs up!
Oh My Venus 오 마이 비너스
So Ji-sub as Kim Young-ho/John Kim
Shin Min-a as Kang Joo-eun
Jung Gyu-woon as Im Woo-shik
Yoo In-young as Oh Soo-jin
Sung Hoon as Jang Joon-sung
Henry Lau as Kim Ji-woong

Kim Young-Ho (So Ji-Sub) is a personal trainer for Hollywood stars. Even though he comes from a wealthy family background, he suffered a devastating injury during his childhood days. Now, he overcomes his problems with patience and stubbornness. Kang Joo-Eun (Shin Min-A) is 33-year-old lawyer. She has struggled to support her family. Now, Kang Joo-Eun is overweight and not so attractive. As they work on her physical transformation, both discover they feel more for each than what they will admit. As they grow closer they heal each other's emotional wounds and fall in love.

My Thoughts
I have been waiting for this drama ever since the casting was announced. So Ji Sub made an impressive first scene with his pull-up (yums at the meat, lol!) Overall, a nice rom-drama to watch especially with Henry goofing around
Oh My Ghostress 오 나의 귀신님
Park Bo-young as Na Bong-sun
Jo Jung-suk as Kang Sun-woo
Lim Ju-hwan as Choi Sung-jae
Kim Seul-gie as Shin Soon-ae
Na Bong-Sun (Park Bo-Young) works as an assistant chef. Because of her timid personality and low self-esteem, she doesn't have any friends. Since she was a child, she has been able to ghosts because of her shaman grandmother. One day, she becomes possessed by seductress ghost Shin Soon-Ae. Kang Sun-Woo (Cho Jung-Seok) is a star chef. Na Bong-Sun has a secret crush on him. He is good looking and confident as a chef. Even though he is popular with women, he has yet to get over his ex-girlfriend. He begins to notice Na Bong-Sun after her sudden change.

My Thoughts
Don't expect any Master Sun ghosts here. The ghost here is a funny figure and speaking of that, Park Bo Young is really adorable, ha! When acting as Soon-Ae, she was talking continuously but you don't find it irritating. Even Leecher agrees that she's really good and want to watch the Werewolf Boy movie. Jo Jung Suk doesn't seem to shed off from his bodyguard image in the King 2 Heart. Overall, a light-hearted drama worth watching!
The Girl Who Sees Smell 냄새를 보는 소녀
Park Yoo-chun as Detective Choi Mu-gak
Shin Se-kyung as Oh Cho-rim/Choi Eun-seol
Namgung Min as Chef Kwon Jae-hee/Jay Kwon Ford
Yoon Jin-seo as Yeom Mi

3 years ago, a man lost his younger sister in the "Bar Code" murder case. Since then he has lost his senses. A girl miraculously survived the "Bar code" murder case. Since then, she has lost her memory, but also has gained the ability to see smells.
My Thoughts
This drama was based on a web toon, with an interesting concept of having the ability to see smells. I was a bit skeptical of Shin Se Kyung at first, but she redeemed herself in this drama slightly. Seriously, the evil guy in this drama is the most refined and gentle guy but in K-drama land, the most perfect guy is normally the suspect if he is not the male lead.
The Times We Were Not In Love 너를 사랑한 시간
Ha Ji-won as Oh Ha-na
Lee Jin-wook as Choi Won
Yoon Kyun-sang as Cha Seo-hoo
Choo Soo-hyun as Lee So-eun
Oh Ha-Na (Ha Ji-Won) and Choi Won (Lee Jin-Wook) are both 34-years-old. They have been friends for 17 years. Oh Ha-Na is currently a career woman with an honest and confident personality. Choi Won works as an assistant purser for an airline. He has always helped Oh Ha-Na whenever she got into trouble. Cha Seo-Hoo (Yoon Gyun-Sang) is a pianist with a free spirit and Lee So-Eun (Choo Soo-Hyun) is a cabin attendant for an airline. Will Oh Ha-Na and Choi Won find love?

My Thoughts
I didn't watch the Taiwan version, but this version was good! I was glued for 2 reasons: I'm a fan of Jin Wook as he resembles Takashi Kaneshiro slightly and the huge bag/shoes collection that was sponsored to Ha Ji Won. However, I just can't stand it when she kept piling bags on herself - who would carry 3 bags at one go?
Yong Pal 용팔이
Joo Won as Kim Tae-hyun
Kim Tae-hee as Han Yeo-jin
Chae Jung-an as Lee Chae-young
Jo Hyun-jae as Han Do-joon

Kim Tae-hyun is a talented surgeon. Desperate for money to pay for his sister's medical bills, he adopts the code name Yong-pal and offers his medical skills to those in need of medical attention but who cannot do so publicly, dealing with criminals and corrupt plutocrats. Joining a team of corrupt physicians Kim rescues "sleeping beauty" Han Yeo-jin, a chaebol heiress, from a medically induced coma, leading to unintended consequences.

My Thoughts
Watch it if you have not! Cliffhangers and suspense all in one, with love story in between. The drama was extended for 2 more episodes due to high ratings and popularity, enough said.
