Weekian's NCC

My youngest brother had his NCC passing out parade on 11th April 2008. He specially invited Leecher & me to go and view the parade @ the NCC campus. So, being the very 伟大 sister, i took half day leave to grace the event with Leecher.

We took the train to Yio Chu Kang and waited for the shuttle bus to take us to the NCC campus (since the campus is located at some 鸟不生蛋 place)

The parade started with the performance from the band

followed by the march-in of the flag contingent

lastly, its the march-in of contingent 1 & 2 (only took pics of contingent 2) Quite pleased that the ceremony took place in the evening, so that it won't be that humid :)

My brother is standing in the 1st row, 3rd from the left

Leecher took a video of the March-in ceremony

Weekian received the Syndicate Award for the West zone - haha, didn't expected this coming... but he looks kinda toot in the picture taken leh...wa ha ha >_< Standing in front of the parade square with the 3 other recipients of the award (for different zones)

Stomach in, chest out - hahaha (but i got to admit, quite smart leh. Too bad Leecher is so chao geng that he doesn't have a chance to wear such smart uniform)

Receiving his award from the Guest of Honour

After that, family members are invited to don to ranks of the NCC cadets. Initially I thought its some very chim stuff and Leecher seems to know what it is, so I gave Leecher the honour of doing that (mainly cuz I don't want to embarrass myself in front of so many pple, haha) But, turns out that its so easy, chey!

That's my brother, sweating like a pig. He even wore a T-shirt inside his uniform >__<|||
Leecher removing Weekian's old rank ...

The old and the new ranks

There he is, standing tall and proud with the new ranks

Posing for pictures once we donned the rank for him :)

His fren came over to grace the parade as well, so she got the privilege of donning the other side of the rank

Once the music stops, we had to go back to our seats, so that the contingents can march off to mark the end of the parade. Leecher has officially became the video-man...

Guests are invited to the multi-purpose hall for light refreshments and to view the performances by the cadets. Getting bored with the wait .. :(

The new cadets marching into the hall - I was still on the lookout for my brother (since he told me he is standing at the 17th position) until he "zui" me , den I realised that he was just standing beside me.

The cadets celebrating .... I seriously think that only secondary school students will feel that high and keep on cheering. I don't think I can do that now, haha.

Had our dinner while watching the performances.

Lastly, our newly "promoted" cadet officer , wa ha ha

Prata Shop

If u have read my bro's blog, Blamer had cravings for prata yesterday and dragged the whole family out to this prata place at Upp Thomson. (Strongly recommended by Roger who swears it's better than Jalan Kayu's) And of cos, it's me blogging again (ie Blamer coerced me to do it)

A cosy place by the road side, if u dun owe any wheels, buses available are 138 and 169, I think there's more but can't remember le.

This is the menu, quite poorly taken by Blamer but they sell almost identical prata flavours as the shop at Jalan Kayu. Being a restaurant, it offers noodles and other Indian dishes as well.

Our drinks, ordered soursop, lime and milo-dinosaur.

The food took awhile to come, hence Blamer decided to take some pic of a grumpy Dennis, who was forced out of the house.

In contrast, Blamer and me anticipating our food.

Finally...

Maggie Mee goreng.

I think the profit margin for this dish is awesome. Initially, the waiter asked. "chicken or mutton?" and I thought there was only two types, hence replied "chicken". However upon receiving the bill, I discovered that 'chicken" means an extra dollar, $4.50 for stir-fried maggie mee!!! Which means the third type Plain aka maggie mee with egg and vege, cost $3.50. But give them credit, this mee taste not bad at all... not bad at all...

Ha ha wat does this looks like;

Banana prata!! Roger ordered this plus a plain one.

Me with my Onion and Egg Prata.

Blamer with her Cheese and Egg Prata.

Another dish worth mentioning is this, the mutton curry which we ordered separately. Very very nice leh, goes well with the prata too, I think I dipped my prata in this curry more often den the ones that they served us with.

Satified Blamer forcing me to smile...

Mummy's Birthday

It's my mummy's bdae, so being the 孝顺 daughter, I still bought cakes for her even though she insisted that she dun want. Last year, she had Mango cake from Hans' and she loved it so much that she finished 3/4 of the cake.

This yr, I went back to Hans' again and bought slices of different cakes, so that she will get to "sample" a lot at one go. Lots of cakes on selection, hmm...can't really decide which one to buy

Finally decided on 6 cakes ....

According to Daddy, he says that the chocolate truffle is nice (middle one) - but den again, he likes anything that is chocolate, so ... go figure for yourselves.

Leecher thinks that the Pandan cake pales in comparision with those in Bangawan Solo

Her fave is the strawberry almond pie. I love this as well, the strawberries are big and yummy.

Happy Birthday Mummy, hope you like the present that we gave to you.

PS: my mum is camera-shy, so no pics of her, :)

长城粥

Other den the Sinma Frog Porridge, this other stall located in Chinatown is also one of my fav outlet for frog porridge. Whenever we pass by Outram and the time allows, I'll try to eat supper here.

We ordered the usual, two bowls of porridge, one 宫保 claypot frog and braised pig's intestines.

And b'cos we usually have to wait a while for the frog porridge, we will order chicken wings from the nearby stall. This chicken stall is really riding on the fame of the frog porridge stall man. I realised that I'm not the only one that orders chicken wings while waiting for the porridge and the wings used to cost $1.10, now its actually cost $1.30 a piece!! Talk about inflation.

But the most amazing discovery is that Blamer discovered how to take close up pics using "dent dent" by switching to the "flower" mode. Compare the two pics below:

Without the "flower" mode

With the "flower" mode. Great different rite?
