Bali Day 5

Continue on our Bali trip. Think Blamer side-track quite a bit with her current craze over vampires... ...

Day 5 started at the wee hours in the morning, we started our ascent on Mt Batur, the only active volcano left in Bali, without breakfast... Cold and hungry, we stick to the guide like glue. It was pitch black but the guide managed pretty well even without the aid of a torchlight. Anyway, I couldn't take many photos since it was way too dark.

We finally reached the platform for viewing the magnificent sunrise. It was still dark and even with my powerful flashlight, all we can see were the clouds.

Twilight, but no sun : ( . It was too cloudy that day for us to see the sun. Sign, we endured all the wet and cold for nothing.

As if to compensate our loss, the guide offered to bring us higher up the mountain if we dare. Usually the tour will end after the viewing of the sunrise. We gamely accepted the challenge!

And in the midst of the climb, we came across a cave. The guide told us that there's actually a make-shift shrine in the cave for ppl to come and meditate and pray.

Took some pics of the shrine, although Blamer thought it was a little eerie. By the way, it was pitch-black in the cave. If you are without your flashlight, you are a goner man. Wonder why we had the guts to go into the cave in the first place. Ha ha...

The nice guide actually knocked off a portion of the rock for Blamer as a keepsake. So that she would remember she had been inside this cave. So sweet.

Some views of the crater, as you can see, we were really among the clouds... ...

Here we began our descent. As the sky began to clear up, we decided to take more pics.

Came across this plant which our guide told us is edelweiss which is actually the unofficial national flower of Switzerland.

This photo was supposed to show the contrast between the lake of the left and the lava field on the right. But I guess the mist sort of obscured all that.

So far I think this is the best shot of Mt Batur. So much so that we decided to take a few more...

As always, I think I am a better timer than Blamer in terms of jumping shots.

On the way down, we came across a mother hen with her chicks. SOOOO cute!

Last pic with my tour guide before we go for our lunch.

This is the restaurant which boasts of a magnificent view of the mountain.

So what do you think?

Food wise, it's buffet style, not much of a selection despite the long row of tables. Just a repeat of 5-6 dishes.

In the end, these were what we deemed edible. Wa ha ha...

Back at the studio apartments, our thoughtful host actually kept our breakfast aside for us. To my surprise, it was still warm when they served it to us. I loved the texture of the banana pancake, it was chewy and wholesome, not the normal fluffy type.

After some rest, we headed down to Kuta Square for some shopping! Can't resist the golden arc's beckoning... ...

Went into MacDonald's to check out any difference in offerings from Singapore. Noticed that they do serve rice in their restaurant, but Blamer and me were a bit to full for rice, ordered their wrap and two piece chicken instead.

Next up, the famous Kuta Beach!!! Wow wow wow!! Such vast, flat and clean beach, beat East Coast anytime!

Gorgeous sunset too. Excuse us for the groceries, haha, remember we just came from shopping at Kuta Square.

But we still managed to leave our "mark" behind!!

Dinner next at Bamboo Corner, one of the must visit places on Tripadvisor.

But I think their fare was just passable, nothing to shout about though. We had pork fried rice and chicken satay rice(forgot to take a pic of this though). Maybe a little over-rated. However, if you are just looking for something to fill the stomach at the same time go easy on your wallet, this might be the place for you.

More shopping after dinner! Finally managed to hunt down the factory outlet for Quiksilver. Bought a really cheap boardshorts at more 70% off! Yeah!

The rest of our loot!

Mid-Autumn Festival 2009

Mid-Autumn Festival is here again - another round of mooncake tasting :)

Look at the crowd @ Taka! Gosh, I nearly fainted when I tried to squeeze my way in.

Went all the way to Taka just for one particular booth

Mini egg custards mooncakes from The Peninsula, Hong Kong. I first read about this particular brand from MQ's food blog and I asked my fellow foodie colleague in HK about them. Turned out that we gave our HK clients' Peninsula's mooncakes as well.

3 boxes of 8 mini egg custards mooncakes. Mummy & great-granny were full of praises for these.

Raffles Hotel Snow-Skin mooncake with Champagne Truffle & Ganache, courtesy of Leecher! This has got to be the must-have-mooncakes in my house, since it appeared for 2 consective years. I only got 1/4 bite of a mooncake and before I know it, the whole box was empty :(

Marriott's traditional double-yolk mooncakes with white lotus paste for my corporate clients. It was a mad rush delivering 32 boxes of mooncakes to my clients personally with their gift cards. Glad that we managed to finish the task in 4 days!

As usual, the AF gang met up @ Yunfa's place for a pre-mid-autumn gathering. We ended up watching 超級星光大道 5 and I was smitten with 倪安东! Alas, he is younger than me :( I like his rendition of 如果沒有你, been pestering Leecher to let me listen to the song every night, haha :P

The turn-out of the night! It's a pity that Weiming's family left before I arrived :( couldn't get to see WenLe and TianLe.

A bunch of 20-yr-something people doing wacky poses for the camera, LOL. That's how life is supposed to be!

Addicted!

I never knew that this is so addictive. Leecher terms it as an American cheap flick & we didn't bother to catch the movie as well.

Normally, movie adaption is not as enticing as reading the book itself - think of Dan Brown & Harry Potter series.

Long overdue interest , but well, this is the reason why I haven't been blogging much lately ....

Not exactly the main reason though, I was also busy planning for other stuffs as well :)

Totally captivated by book-Edward, had to force myself to put down the book sometimes. When I watched the movie, I was significantly disappointed :( but .....

Shuai!! Haha, this is beginning to sound like a Qian-ish type of post ....

Charming smile that will melt any girls' heart ~

Love it when he drove Bella to school & to break all the rules for her .... sounds cheesy rite? I like, wa ha ha ...

Even dating on the tree top is romantic when you're with Edward ....

Now, back to my daily dosage of Twilight movie, waiting patiently for New Moon to arrive!

*Hope Leecher doesn't flip when he reads this, BAH*

Yen's Bdae 2009

The AF gang met up again to celebrate Yen's bdae! Yen's 面子 was so big that Marcus came along despite his busy schedule. We all assembled @ AMK's famous crab restaurant for this bdae meal. Business was so good that when we reached at 6.30pm, we were 20th in the queue.

Look at the crowd. There was still a queue at 9pm. Previously, it was just a stall in the coffee shop. However, business was so good that the boss took over the whole coffee shop and renovated the place.

The guys turned up unanimously in stripes. In case you're wondering, Marcus was wearing stripes pants, thus qualifying for this picture.

They refused to take pictures with me (in dots) as they said I was outdated, ^%$^#. However, being the ever-doting brothers, they obliged when I wanted a picture. I can be a tyrant at times :P

Leecher & Vanness formed the "partner" team. Leecher was secretly hoping that the AF guys will bring along their GFs in future, so he can be the grass amongst the flowers.

More pictures while waiting for the food to arrive. 1hr wait for the food after we were seated. Gosh, I'm famished!

Crabs galore! We ordered their signature crab beehoon and topped up 2 times! That speaks volume of the yummylicious-level. While the guys prefered the butter crabs, I was greedily savouring my chilli crab. However, the standard seemed to have dropped slightly.

Bdae boy Yen with the 3 difficult crabs that we ate.

Ta-dah! One more candle on Yen's bdae cake & may it be filled with love and best wishes :)

Bali Day 4

Finally my turn to blog, haha - not that i didnt want to blog, but Leecher was happily blogging so I decided to let him have his way :) Woke up early to go water rafting @ Ayung River.

It was a 1.5hr journey from our apartment. While Leecher was busy meeting up with 周公, I was admiring the scenery.

Rice paddy fields that outline the Balinese landscape. I was disappointed that I couldn't cycle through the rice fields. I will definitely return to accomplish my task!

Finally, we arrived at the equipments' room. Being a non-swimmer, I was pretty scared at trying out rafting. However, the guide assured me that it's completely safe, so I decided to just give it a go.

I think Leecher's head looks super round here, haha.

All set & ready to go! It was a tedious walk from the equipments' room to the raft location. Along the way, Leecher took videos but once again, they were too large to be loaded.

Ok, no turning back for me at this point. Boy, I was actually getting excited by the seconds :)

1/4 way down Ayung River. That's our guide, Wayang. In Balinese culture, Wayang means the eldest child of the family, thus, it is also the most common name.

Our team mates :) It was their virgin attempt @ rafting too, so our guide had to work extra hard to navigate the raft across the rapids & currents. It was difficult to ignore the charms that the picturesque rice paddy fields & the cooling waterfalls held as we rafted along the river. No pictures as we couldn't risk getting Dent Dent wet.

We were pretty exhausted by the time we reached the ending point. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't try the steepest rapid drop. Another must-do on my agenda :)
