Bangkok Trip 2011 - 12 Jan 2011

Long awaited post of my virgin trip to Bangkok! Yup you heard it right, first trip to Bangkok. Always wanted to go but it was put off either by threat of bombing or threat of riots.

Early flight and cos we are taking budget flight, need to fill up our stomach first.

I think I had a chicken mushroom sandwich while Blamer just grabbed a curry puff.

Getting ready to check in! First time on board Air Asia as well. Hope they are at least as good as Jet Star.

Tick Tock Tick Tock.... and yup we hand-carried our luggage!

And we are away.

Sawasdee Krap!

Feels a little like Singapore with the direct train to the city from the airport.

Blamer as usual, the scout with all the info.

Yup that's her purchasing the tickets.

Interesting token system that you need to flash at the gates for entry. Much like our EZlink.

Pretty clean and nice train. Heard from Blamer this train service is still relatively new.

Actually the exterior of the train looks pretty much like our own SMRT no?

The "all knowing" Blamer says we need to transfer to the BTS...

So the "less knowing" me ended up with all the luggage...

Now this brings back memories. Our old transitlink card.

Their BTS.

Blamer chance upon this waffle kiosk at the BTS station.

Couldn't resist the aroma and it became our official first taste of Bangkok! But the taste couldn't match up with it's aroma, quite disappointed.

Blamer managed to get us safely to our accommodation, Tango Hotel.

Quite decent for it's price. Anyways we wouldn't be spending much time in here.

Cos the next minute, we are at every girl's heaven, Platinum mall.

For me, I was more looking forward to the food part. At level 6, food court.

Tasty quail eggs, but need to watch the cholesterol, no second helpings.

I like the batter very much. Very savoury and fragrant, mixed in with the seafood to give it a bit more texture. I would definitely recommend you to start with this as an appetizer.

Blamer's main course is curry chicken with yellow rice. I can't say there's anything fantastic about it.

I wanted something soupy so ordered their shark's fin and fish maw soup. A tad on the salty side and too gooey for me. Wouldn't order it again.

After our first day of non-stop shopping (no pics during shopping, Blamer too preoccupied haha), we managed to work off our lunch. Decided to be more adventurous and tried out what the locals normally eat.

Maiden roadside stall experience.

Advice for those with weaker stomachs, if you ever want to try out a roadside stall, at least choose the ones with food cooked under high temperature. The high heat should kill most of the germs.

Very delicious pork kuay teow soup. I think it became Blamer favourite stall thereafter.

We walked further down the lane and Blamer, still feeling hungry, decided to pack some supper. Again, high heat cooking.

Very decent omelet but I think he put in a tad too much chilli padi.

The White Rabbit

Hello from Bali! Checked into a villa for our 1st leg and nv felt so nua throughout my whole life, haha - not complaining @ all! Now that the wedding is over, its time to gather my thoughts back to reality :) Serious backlog on all the entries, but I'm slowly churning them out, esp those pertaining to the house reno & wedding! Before that, a dinner date with Leecher to my fave hangout place ~ White Rabbit!
The path leading to the Water Hole Leecher decided to give the Water Hole a miss and headed straight to the restaurant instead ~ Coincidentally, we were seated at the exact same place where we celebrated our 5th year anniversary & I took the chance to remind Leecher of my forgotten bdae cake, lol!
Deciding on what to eat ~ While I already know what I wanna order :) Bread was better this time round, at least it was warm but nothing beats the bakery @ Prive. Can't wait to start .... but ... pic first, lol! Nobody does Mac & Cheese as good as White Rabbit - my new found love. My order of Duck Confit, which consists of crispy pork belly, seared foie gras and carrot puree.
Leecher's order of 48-hour Braised Short Ribs, which consisted of pomme purée, carrots, sauce bourguignon.
Didn't realise that we were both dressed in grey till now, heehee. Always a separate stomach for dessert. Decided to try the Crêpes Suzette this time round.
Getting ready for dessert - live preparation!
Coating the pan with butter ..... Adding in sugar .... Check out the flame! Adding in orange .... Letting the crepes soak in the syrup ... Ta-dah! The finished product ~ Ordered the The White Rabbit Crème Brûlée too, heehee! Super greedy :p with the dearest :) will be back soon, mega love!
