First stop, Bugis. Supposed to be Mum's birthday but Roger felt tat it's time for Dad to get a new watch, hence we went to Bencoolen to get a watch for him. Didn't know that u can find bargain watches at Bencoolen. Remember Blamer bought a Sporty watch with MY vouchers? The same watch is $20 cheaper at Bencoolen!! Anywayz, Blamer thinks it ok since she paid for the watch using MY vouchers : (
Since we were at Bugis, brought mum and dad to 阿秋甜品 for their famous desserts.
Ta-Da! Fungus with papaya and dates. 清凉, 清凉, especially since the past few days has been so hot.
Ha ha, I ordered the Hong Kong style ice red bean. Always on the sold out list whenever I'm here for desserts. Die die must try... but so-so only leh. How come it's always sold out?
This is one of their 招牌 desserts: 杨枝柑露 (I think it is written like this right?) Xiufeng had this topped with a free scoop of coconut ice-cream.
A photo of the couple who 赚到 the free scoop of ice-cream cos initially it was Roger who wanted to add ice-cream, but I think the sales person got mixed up and added ice-cream to both their orders.
This is Roger's pick. Yam with coconut milk and coconut ice-cream. According to him, taste like Bo Bo Cha Cha without the sweet potatoes.
Second stop is dinner proper at Ah Yat Seafood located at Shaw Towers.
Inside the restaurant. Tanks and tanks of live seafood waiting for their fate i.e. into our stomachs, wa ha ha ha. (wa this sounds a bit evil, if u are a vegetarian or an animal lover, do forgive me)
Roger wanted to try one of their specialties, the Geoduck Clam. Frankly speaking, I have never tried one of these myself. Since it's going at $96.60 each instead of the usual $136, hmm why not? By the way, that's the waiter picking up our very first Geoduck Clam.
Meanwhile, we went to look at the other seafood and was lucky enuf to see this epic battle in the making. Alaska King Crab versus Australia Lobster. Can u see the crab kicking the lobster?
Since it's Mummy's birthday, I managed to sweet talk the manager to give us a free gift. I was hoping for some longevity noodles, but he gave me the peaches instead.
Oh before I get too carried away, this is the birthday girl, ha ha. Happy Birthday! And Dad who ended up getting a new watch too.
The waiter came back with a big pot of soup. He told us that the Geoduck is supposed to be eaten as a sashimi. Why waste fresh seafood right? But if Mum and Dad can't take it, we can use the soup as a shabu shabu.
The soy sauce and wasabi, Blamer keep reminding me that the wasabi looks like erm erm... ... For those who used to watch the series 济公, use a bit of imagination... ...
The dish that cost a hundred bucks (soup stock cost $15 by the way, hence 100 bucks)
Tasted like abalone. Especially like the stomach portion. I think it taste better as a shabu shabu. Maybe be'cos of the chicken stock. As sashimi, the first few bites were refreshing, too much and u can get overwhelmed by the fishiness of the dish.
Drunken prawns. Actually, we didn't really get to take a pic of every dish (much to Blamer's regret) cos apparently, we came a tad too early and the waiters and waitresses were so eager to serve us that they offered to apportion most of our dishes. Lucky we can still take a pic of the prawns before they become like this... ...
Peking duck. Strangely, they didn't "apportioned" this as well. But they didn't crave off the skin in front of us, not very pro rite?
We were so used to the waiter and waitresses dividing the food up, Roger was wondering how they would distribute the chili crab, but it never came. Maybe some dishes are not meant to be "apportioned". Ha ha.
So far, the food was ok. But when it came to the dessert. I was a little disappointed that it was just red bean soup. Was hoping for some almond beancurd or mango pudding and such.
Third and final stop, mango cake from Hans! Mummy like this cake cos it's really fruity minus all the cream and stuff. U can taste pieces of real fruit added to the cake as well. Yum yum.
Candles, song and a birthday wish. Wish Mummy will be happy always and stay fit as a fiddle! Hmm why is Bad Badtz Maru lurking in the background.
