Shimbashi Soba @ Paragon

After weeks of tightening our belts amid the ongoing recession, Blamer and I decided to let our hair down and enjoy something sinful today.

Shimbashi Soba, I have been wanting to try out the soba here ever since the day I witnessed the chef preparing the soba "live" behind a glass panel. The restaurant cleverly installed a wheat miller beside the chef, showing you that the flour used was being freshly milled as well.

Blamer's set. She ordered the warm version of soba and her set came with assorted tempura, chicken kaarage and fried tofu.

That's Blamer giving the thumbs up for her set. Personally, I think the soba tasted better when cold.

My set. Cold soba with unagi, salmon sashimi and assorted tempura as well.

Noticed the wasabi. This was actually the first time I tasted wasabi freshly grated from the wasabi root. It is still mind numbing, however there's a slight fragrant to it that is missing in the paste form normally served at most restaurant. Man... I would not eat wasabi like I used to anymore.

Yup yup can't wait to sink my teeth into the cold soba. It's more chewy compared to Blamer's version which sort of disintegrates even without chewing. The cold version is more 'Q' (as most taiwanese like to put it) and you could actually taste the slight sweetness of the soba if you chew it slowly.

Since we have already spent so much, should end the meal with a nice Japanese dessert. Although the only thing Japanese about this dessert is the green tea flavoured rice cake hidden amidst the soybean powder.

Overall, thumbs up for the food fare. Damage to wallet is about SGD70++ inclusive of green tea served throughout the meal.

Ryoichi Sushi

In times of recession, people are looking to stretch-their-dollars in whatever they can. So, we decided to jump on the bandwagon and went to Ryoichi Sushi @ Suntec for their Weekday Value Meal. A plus point - this value meal is valid on Friday nights as well (till a certain timing), unlike some other restaurants which classify Friday nights in the same league as Sat & Sun.

As expected, lots of other patrons are queuing up to lay their hands on the value meal.

We took the counter seat; if not it will be another 20 min wait for a table.

Leecher's enthusiastic face @ the stretch-your-dollar-meal that he will be having.

I was pretty fascinated by the "water spray" thingy at the bar counter. Leecher said that the spray will dispense different types of beverages depending on which button you press. Wah, so interesting.

Usual cam-whore while waiting for our food to come. No water was served, though I spotted white plastic cups on other patrons' tables :(

Complimentary plate of sashimi if you're paying with DBS/POSB credit card. Thick slices of sashimi, but not really that fresh though.

My order of Spinach Leek Yaki beef set. Beef was slightly salty (if I recalled correctly) but definitely better than Leecher's order of Unagi Tori Tamago Sullmono (below)

The Tamago soup was quite bland; can't really taste any tamago despite seeing it floating around.

Old-school ice cream being served, adding the final touches to the meal. We observed that the waiter(s) lacked consistency while scooping the ice cream. While one guy attempts to fill up the scope entirely with ice-cream, the others just 做个样子and scope the minimal. We even overheard someone "scolding" the guy; saying that he scooped too much ice cream for the customer. Poor thing!

Leecher looks very pro when tasting his strawberry ice-cream & he went off to polish my portion. Well, that doesn't mean that the ice cream is that fantastic. Rather, the value meal can't seem to fill up his stomach, wa ha ha. Leecher 的胃大如宇宙.

Leecher's hands got really red while we were on our way back - cuz he was busy carrying our loots from The Body Shop sale, wa ha ha. See the contrast? Don't worry, I bought hand-cream & body lotion for him to soothe his hands :) wat a doting GF I am, wa ha ha :P

Auntie's Bdae

It's Auntie's birthday and being her prospective future son-in-law, I bought a cake to celebrate!

Auntie took a break today and packed back a sumptuous dinner of black pepper crab, BBQ chicken wings, half a roast duck and honey pork ribs.

Happy Auntie with me (prospect) and Blamer.

Happy family with rare appearance of Wee Keong! Affectionately known as Birdie! Too bad I'm not in the photo.

Auntie with her precious son, dun u think he is getting fitter?

Oh tell you all something, I'm always amazed at how Auntie plays the 4D market, since it's Auntie's birthday, she jioed me to buy 4D with her hand-picked lucky numbers. I gladly chip in 5 bucks!

Sor Sor's Bdae KTV Session

After a long day of fun & feast @ my place, we graced Sor Sor's bdae KTV session late in the night.

Free flow of juices; but according to the early birds, the Ice Lemon Tea tastes like cough syrup & Lychee is like plain water; only Orange Juice is drinkable. Can forget about the rest.

Suaku me thought this was pretty cool ~ to have the remote control mounted to the wall, so you don't have to keep searching for the handheld remote control.

Forget about handheld remote in this KTV. You can look for songs using this "keyboard" & I was pretty amazed. Looks like partyworld & kbox have some catching up to do. The downside: you will have to sit @ the "hot seat" for your song dedications instead of searching for songs comfortably on the couch.

After so long, time to introduce our bdae boy ....

Yixiang, affectionately known as Sor Sor (don't ask me why, but his facebook name is Sor Sor) turned 25th this year! Happy Birthday :) He is always the joker of our class, can't believe that we have known each other for 12 years! All the dirty tricks that he did during secondary school are embedded in the memories of those who suffered under him, hahaha :P

The early birds ~ Fling, Noel, Nijun, Miaoli: the Woodlanders who managed to reach earlier than Qian & me, thanks to Noel's BMW :( I also want to hitch a ride!

The duo who took public transport aka MRT :) Save the Earth!

The loving couple: Andrew & Ethel.

The brotherhood - Andrew, Sor Sor & Yuxin. Sor Sor freaked out upon seeing Andrew's hand on his shoulders.

Though she was singing, but Ms SSL certainly has time to pose for a picture. Great camera sense!

The gers in action~

Yuxin's turn to hog the mike ~ see how engrossed he is in singing. Andrew, Sor Sor & Ethel were all captivated by his voice. However ......

The gers were busy cam-whoring, hahaa. Sorry Pal! You know that we will always give you morale support!

Sor Sor with his erm....crushes during secondary school days. (don't kill me for writing this!) Since it's his bdae, we decided to let him have a 左拥右抱 to fulfil his "desires" which he missed 10 years ago :P

Not to be out-done by Sor Sor, Andrew also wanted a 左拥右抱 picture; 但是,我们是无辜的!I still remembered I used to rock Andrew's chair and sing Rock-a-bye baby when I saw him "dozing" off in class :P

Another 左拥右抱; ok, you've officially beaten Sor Sor hands down!

With my ex-dance comp partner, Yuxin. 15 years of frenship & still counting.

We made Doreen & Sor Sor sing 屋顶 together - another 未完成愿望 of Sor Sor (Andrew is like the mastermind, keep thinking of tricks to 整 Sor Sor). Guess Sor Sor must be feeling damn happy that night :P

Erm.... we didn't know that 原来,Sor Sor 也对 YuXin 有感觉....ok, we get it!

The bdae boy with the gers :)

The turnout for the night! Happy Birthday Sor Sor :)
