Mummy's Birthday 2013

We held an early celebration for mummy dearest's birthday as I will be away in KL for a conference during her birthday. We usually celebrate it within the family with a simple dinner + cake. This year, we held a birthday bash for her while keeping her in the dark :) The plan was first conceived when I was looking at the calender and realised that I'll be out of town. So, I whatsapp my lil bro to coordinate his schedule for an early birthday celebration ... then we realised that it was her 50th birthday (opps, revealing her age!), so one thing led to another and then we decided to have a surprise birthday bash :) We had to come up with a plan to get her out of the house & my brilliant lil bro came up with the ingenious excuse.

I dunno whether to laugh or cry, lol! So, at the end of the day, we engaged Aunt Emily's help. Her sisters were all informed of the party beforehand and all kept her in the dark while providing me with information based on their phone conversations, haha! So, on the day itself, Leecher drove to CCK to fetch her, on the pretext of sending her to Aunt Emily's place to look at a gigantic fish ornament (she's into fishes recently!).

This time round, I ordered from Neo Garden. The guys came over early & set up the place. Nowadays HDB corridor very small & we have to eat into my neighbours' front door.

Wanted to order the mini buffet initially, then decided to just heck it and order a min 30 pax buffet as it came with food warmers. I even bought ta-bao boxes for all my relatives to pack the food back for dinner, haha!

Mummy dearest @ the buffet table trying out the dishes.

The birthday cake that I very kiasu-ish ordered from Pine Garden 1 month ago, sponsored by lil brother.

Very pleased with the fantastic job! HUAT AR!

Leecher lighting the 5 big candles that we got. We wanted to get 50 candles, but think we will have a hard time lighting them up, so decided to abandon the idea and make do with 5 big candles instead.

Birthday girl with her rice bucket birthday cake :)

The love ones in my life :)

with her sisters.

Singing birthday song, making a wish (but she looked like she's praying!) and blowing out the candles. She chided us for not "informing" her earlier, so she can come in a nicer outfit, lol!

Being the 4D lovers, the aunties went to count the no. of gold and bet on the numbers later.

Everyone got so excited at counting the gold coins that they started to crowd around the table, lol! Have to double-count to make sure that the number is correct somemore.
Faced with the daunting task of how-to-cut-the-cake-next.

3-layer lychee martini cake :) This was enough to feed 45 pax, so everyone got quite a portion of cake to take home.

with 5th auntie & uncle who came slightly later.

Thank you everyone for coming and helping me to coordinate the surprise birthday party :) Really appreciate it *winks* You guys are the best!

And to my mummy dearest ~ may you stay happy & healthy always, have more inspiration for your 4D betting and HUAT ar!

Weddings: Gavin & Jacqueline, Yen & Hui Fang

Happy Tuesday! I'm now in the hotel room in KL, waiting for the seminar to start in about an hour's time. A quick wedding entry of our friends who tied the knot (of happiness) :) Always a pleasure to join them on their celebrations. Attending weddings remind me of my own wedding day and once in a while, we need that flush of memory to keep the relationship going!

Received this invite on our whatsapp group before the wedding invitations came along :) Gavin & Jacq got married on 20.12.2012 ~no excuses on Gav for forgetting this date.

Leecher was part of the brother gang for this wedding. Each brother has a special character to pin on their jacket and Leecher got Eve, haha! We shamelessly requested Jac's sister to make a Wall-E version for us.

Jac's sisters took great effort to decorate the reception area ~ a post-box for us to mail our best wishes for the couples, lil corners around the place that displayed the couples' times together.

Photobooth ~which was a hit amongst the guests! We even had to queue up to have our pictures taken.

Wedding flavours ~ specially love the cup & I took one more back to use, heehee!
with Shuya & Leecher. When you put the 2 of us together ~ we'll ignore the guys and talk all the girlie stuff - bags, shoes and clothes.

Leecher & Kaiwei, the next in-line to get married.

With Tracy! Recommended her to Gav & Jac and she was their official videographer for the day.

Poor Gavin had to do what every groom does on their wedding day ~ drink up before you are allowed to head upstairs, heehee!

The first wedding that we attended in 2013. The wedding was held @ Pan Pacific & it was my 1st time there for a wedding. I was looking abit loss looking for toilet and there was a staff manager who approached me immediately to ask if I need any assistance b4 I could even approach him. He also helped me to ask for scotch tape, so I could seal up the red packet for Yen. Sometimes, these small gestures are the ones that will go a long way!
We were early & I was hungry, so we headed to Mac for a quick fries fix. Mac fries are still the best to munch on :)

Blue theme for the ballroom
I love how wedding flavours are given in boxes, tied up with ribbons :) Feels like I'm receiving presents.

Lovely Yi Xuan, all grown up now! It took quite a while for her to get warmed up, but she doesn't want anyone to carry her besides her parents. We tried to coax her by feeding her food, but clever girl didn't fall for the trick.
with the lovely 大嫂, always so pretty :)

We were the only ones who will turn red drinking alcohol, but the redness didn't show up in the pics. And yes, we all suffer hangover the day after and yet, amazingly we still show up at work. Workaholics at heart!

The deadly concoction that we created for the groom, but it was too easy peasy for him!

I received this from Leecher yesterday morning
Turned out that Leecher was reading our my blog and it was the day when I posted about our Kai Nian Fan 2013

Presenting to you

Extracted our past Kai Nian Fan pictures and was amused at how much we have changed over the years!

2008 ~ When we had Kai Nian Fan for the 2nd year (1st Kai Nian Fan was during pre-blogging days and we didn't own a digital camera then)

2009 ~ Kenneth joining us for desserts  - not much difference, cant tell for Leecher as he was hiding behind Kenneth *good strategy*

2010 ~ The year where me + Fionn organise the dinner. Yes, I had bangs that year (which was quite IN during that period) and now looking at the pic ... should i cut bangs again??

2012 ~ Venue @ Ember, as recommended by FMQ.
