Taiwan: 大溪老街 & Street Food

Packing my bags for another work trip to BKK tomorrow. In another 30 days, I'll be celebrating my birthday - another year wiser, haha! Have been trying to blog about TW trip, but always got distracted by other entries, so it was left in my "draft" folders waiting to be completed. So, have to remind myself to finish up all the backlogs first!

Took the bus back to Da Si station and walked around the neighbourhood.

Been holding onto this pair of hands for almost 7 years :)

Stopped by this bakery, mainly cuz we were attracted by the numerous media publicity plastered all over the shop.

Got the famous pastry, which tasted much like mini butter cakes.

We didnt spend too much time, as we still need to take the bus back to Taipei.
It was almost 7pm by the time we arrived back in Taipei. We decided to head to Huasi Night Market in search for food, which is near to Longshan Temple.

Love street food!

In the early years, Huaxi Street is famous for porno shops. After prostitution is banned by the government, the place becomes safer for visitors to visit.

We tried Pig's Blood Cake, one of the famous Taiwanese snacks. Surprised that this was relatively chewy, nothing "dreadful" of how I imagined it to be.

Walking through different sections.

Huaxi is sometimes known as Snake Alley, and there is a reason for it. The place is cluttered with shops selling tonic soups, especially snakes. They have snake soup, snake blood, snake semen ... just to name a few.

Snakes are often hung in front of the shop, sliced live in front of audience. I was fortunate not to witness the slaughtering, for that would have been too much for me to bear.

Great time checking out those 小吃!

Bumped into Quan Yifeng and Desmond - they were in Taiwan filming a variety show.

Daddy-in-law needed to have his staple rice for dinner, so off we went to one of the shops along Ximending for a sit-down dinner.

Ended the night with an extra large bowl of dessert! The 5 of us can't even finish this bowl.

Brasserie Gavroche

Decided to change the watermark after using the old version for a couple of months :) As I was sorting out pictures into their respective folders, I realized that I've grown used to seeing the pictures taken by Pus Pus - so when I saw pictures taken by dent dent, it took me several moments of getting used to. Another back-dated entry on Leecher's birthday celebration *old pictures with new watermark*, this time round with the Uni mates.

#ootd, taken outside the restaurant.
The BFF recommended Brasserie Gavroche for their extremely handsome/pretty servers, alongside with their french food.

This restaurant is opened by Frederic Colin, the former executive chef of The St. Regis.

When we walked in, I was greeted by the dashing waiter :) Strategic location to place him, all the ladies will go weak in their knees, haha! He looked just like Jude Law, with more hair!

Their menus come in a wooden frame, that made the arms ache if held for too long.

 Complimentary Parmesan Choux Puffs :)

 Bread basket, with unsalted butter.

In a french restaurant, must order escargots! We also ordered sauteed bamboo clams, topped with Iberico ham to share.

Ordered 3 mains to share b/w the 3 of us. EK and Pris were supposed to join us, but they couldn't get away from work, so we went ahead without them. I'm not a fan of mutton, but the grilled lamb chops here is just yummy! Presentation of food was kinda plain, but the taste made up for it.

with Kenneth dear :)

Pre-ordered Profiterolles for Leecher as part of his birthday celebration. He was in a surprise when they served it to him, cuz he thought we were waiting for the bill.

Another year wiser older

I kept the candle in our cupboard, as a memento for his first bdae as a married man, heehee!

Chocolate mousse to share with Kenneth dear.

We then adjourned to Roberson Quay to meet up with EK and Pris for drinks.

Pris and me prefer white wine, while the guys tend to like red more.

Ordered cheese platter. Love cheese with grapes :)

Sneak off to the counter (enroute to toilet) to prepare for this surprise. Lucky Leecher get to blow 2 "cakes" within a short span of 2 hours.
