Leecher's Bdae Celebration @ Morton's

Another surprise awaits for Leecher when I made reservation @ Morton's for his P2 Bdae treat.
He wanted to try out Morton's for the longest time ever, so I decided to grant him his wish :)

Morton's The Steakhouse, here we come!

Reservation made for 6.30pm, but when there's good food waiting for us, we arrived at 6.25pm! Can't wait to kick off the night :)

Kinda crowded even though it was just slightly passed 6.30pm. The 2 people that you see at the bottom right of the picture - they are part of a family of 4. Mum & daughter were dressed in their cocktail dresses while Father & Son were dressed in their tuxedos. I felt so under-dressed next to them :(

I've always love Morton for their food & attentive service. Surprise #1 came when we were ushered to our table which was filled with confetti for the celebration! No wonder they asked me if there was any special occassion when I made the reservation. Kudos to the team!

Surprise #2 came when we saw the personalised menu with bdae greetings for Leecher! Ok, belated bdae celebration :)

Leecher was super delighted that he can get to keep his bdae menu.

Surprise #3 came when they offered a shawl for me when they noticed that I was rubbing my hands from the coldness, so sweet! I love attentive service :)

Based on my past Morton's experiences, everything about Morton's screams BIG, big on their presentation, big on servings. I was expecting a basket of assorted bread & they wowed me over with the gigantic egg & onion loaf. Fluffy soft yet oozing with the light fragrance of onion. A good start to our meal!

Morton's signature display of chunky beef, a showcase of the ingredients used to prepare the dishes.

Since my wallet is on the chopping board, Leecher decided to order his red wine to go with his beef. No choice, have to pay cuz Bdae boy is the biggest.

Morton's Salad - eggs, vegs and anchovies with Morton's blue cheese dressing. Love the blue cheese dressing, but anchovies were too salty for my liking.

We ordered 1 salad to be shared ... noticed how each plate is brimming with veg? That's Morton's standard for you!

Grilled Jumbo Asparagus in balsamic glaze. Heavenly. Didn't know that asparagus can be that delicious & crunchy!

Jumbo Lump Crabmeat Cocktail with mustard mayonnaise.

Single Cut Filet served in bearnaise sauce. One bit into this & WOOHOO ~ all other steaks will pale in comparison immediately. I experienced it 2 years before and the feeling remains till now. Tender yet The feeling is akin to opening a present on Xmas day and getting exactly what you hoped for!

Leecher about to take his 1st bite ~

Steak: What Morton's Does Best!
Since day one, Morton's has used the same suppliers for our aged prime beef and other meat. They select the best of their inventory for us–and if it doesn't meet Morton's standards, it's sent back.

When we say that we offer "The Best Steak...Anywhere," we mean it!

Can't agree more!

Dessert tray for us to pick our desserts. How can I go home without tasting their signature Morton's legendary hot chocolate cake?

We were told to wait for approx 15 mins for it to be served, so its pics time :)

Wa, hold my hand so tight - must be scared that I will leave him behind with the bill :p

The cheeky waiter :)

Surprise #4 came when the staff came out with the chocolate cake & sang Leecher his happy birthday song, LOL.

The cheeky waiter made his appearance again!

Making his wish - but sorry dear, NO car for you ... toy car can?

Don't be mistaken, that's not his present. Just a prop that he wishes he can bring it home :P

Finally, the chance to taste the cake! Yummy is an understatement.

Leecher's bdae present from Morton's staff.

A big hug for me after paying the bill!

PS: surprise #5 came ... & it shall remain as a surprise :)

Old Town White Coffee

The other day when I was having lunch with one of my colleagues, he mentioned the horfun and nasi lemak from Old Town White Coffee is "hor jiak" (aka delicious), so when Blamer and I were shopping around Suntec, we decided to give it a shot.

Pretty pro looking food and drinks menu. We ordered the horfun and rendang chicken as shown in the pictures above.

It was close to nine when we dropped in, but as you can see in the background, the place was nearly full, bringing up our expectations of the "hor jiak" food.

Finally the food arrived. Not only did the food differed from the pictures, they were not really "hor jiak" too. The horfun was too bland, and there wasn't much condiments. Prawns were quite small and a tad overcooked. The rendang chicken was just pretty normal. Initially, I thought they might be serving coconut rice. But to my dismay, it was just plain rice.

The good thing though was that at least they provide tissue dispenser at the table for our convenience instead of heading to the counter for serviettes.
We decided to give them one more chance and order their drinks instead. The white coffee was still ok, but Blamer nearly puked out the "silk stockings" milk tea. A close description of the tea would be coloured plain water... ... yes it was that bad.

Our total bill which I think is a total ripped off... Not a place where you will find Blamer and me, ever again... ...

Yuxin & Ivan Bdae Celebrations

Time for a meetup with the oldest of my friends - Ivan & Yuxin.

(1) Yuxin's Bdae Celebration (Apr 2010)

Planned a surprise bdae celebration for him. Rushed to buy a bdae cake for Yuxin after a 15 min chop chop discussion with Ivan over MSN. Ivan & I reached the designated place on time (cuz we know Yuxin will be 100% late) and got the staff to put the bdae cake in the fridge.

The Malay restaurant near our place which is opened till almost 12 midnight every night. We choose a strategic seat, such that Yuxin won't see our surprise later!

The bdae cake with 26 candles. All thanks to Ivan's bright idea.

The strategy: I will excuse myself to go washroom first. Ivan will follow 5 mins later. We meet at the entrance & light up all the candles, walk to our table and hope that all the candles survive the 30 steps walk. It wasn't easy lighting up all the 26 candles, make that grand entrance without pausing to re-lit the candles. The bdae cake was almost coated with candle wax!

Bdae boy with his bdae cake! Happy Birthday old fren :) The shock of surprise on his face when we presented him with the bdae cake was priceless!

We didn't manage to reduce him to tears, but that shall be our mission next year!

(2) Ivan's Bdae Celebration (May 2010)

With the 2 guys bdaes just one month apart, it will be quite easy for Ivan to guess that the next meet up will be to celebrate his bdae. However, we managed to fool him with our story:

Yuxin will msg Ivan that he needs a listening ear (problems with r/s) and he will purposely choose a date that I'm busy. True enough, Ivan MSN-ed me if Yuxin asked me out on the particular date. I had to fake ignorant that I dunno what it was all about, but Yuxin did mentioned to me that he was feeling down (blah blah). Perhaps, he wants a guy's talk, I suppose.

Once Ivan is convinced that it was a guy's talk, the task was simple: I will make a surprise appearance at the event, so I had to make sure that Ivan won't be able to see me coming in from his seat. A 20 min phone discussion with Yuxin & we settled on the place!

Only 2 big and 6 small candles this time round, as we learn from the past experience. Kudos to the sweet staff from Delifrance for helping me light up the candles at the counter!

Bdae boy with a victory sign :) I had to endure "scoldings" from my fave cousin for bluffing him.

As much as I like the staff from Delifrance, I can't say much on the taste of their food.

Cutting the cake! Another of my fave from Han's :)

With my oldest frens :) Glad that they like all their surprises. Now, they are going to have a hard time planning for mine, WA HA HA!

Kai Nian Fan 2010

It's the 3rd quarter of 2010, how time flies... ...

It's our annual 开年饭, thanks to Caihong and Fionn, who racked their brains to come up with this venue. A cosy family restaurant setting that serves really affordable Italian food.

We ordered a bit of everything to share. First up, garlic baked mussels. Really like the sauce although I think the mussels might have been a bit overcooked.

Classic Hawaiian Pizza, I think no one could ever screw up this dish.

Now this is cheesy baked escargots. I was pleasantly surprised that they offer this dish. I think all of us gave the thumb ups of this one.

The minced meat bake rice was just normal, I think they can be a bit more generous on the meat.

Squid ink pasta. I think this is my favourite dish of the night because when I asked Fionn whether has she tried the dish, she answered me no. However, there was unmistakeably, black sauce on her lips!!! This is what I called 撒谎不眨眼!

After dinner, we went to Nectarie for desserts.

Had our desserts at this place recommended by Blamer. Strawberry shortcake, Tiramisu and can't remember the first one. Nothing to spectacular about the desserts I think.

As the night was still young, we went for some drinks and snacks at Brewrkz. Successful group photo after many attempts by the waiters. Wonder if they were drinking on the job... ....
