While the hubby is away .....

Instead of saying 3 words 8 letters, this is what I get from Leecher, lol! He claimed this is soooo me :) I guess the hubby really knows me well, heh.

The Lighthouse

It has been a long while since we had a date, so we decided to head to somewhere near the office for our dinner. Leecher made reservations @ The Lighthouse and text me on the time to meet up after work. Since Fullerton Hotel was nearby my office, we arranged to meet at my office before walking over.
As usual, I lead the way since I was supposedly the one with better road/direction sense. I brought Leecher the building opp Fullerton, where I thought was our dinner reservation. While walking, Leecher mentioned that Lighthouse is at Fullerton hotel. I conveniently brushed his words aside, knowing how he always let us on a wild goose chase, lol! To my surprise, when we arrived at the destination, it was Waterboat House instead of Lighthouse.
Trying to find the exact location on the papers. I even asked Leecher if he had made the wrong reservation, lol! Leecher then pointed to the apex at the top of Fullerton Hotel.
With a smug look on his face, he said, "That is the place where we are going." Haha, I almost wanted to find a hole, crawl in and hide.

Back to Fullerton hotel to find our way up to the restaurant.
The old-charm of Fullerton hotel is impossible to replicate elsewhere. Previously, this place was our nation's General Post Office. During the bought-over, the hotel was restored with all the authentic details & even received URA's Architectural Heritage Award - Singapore's highest honour that recognize contributions towards the protection & restoration of Singapore's built heritage.
Whenever we have guests over in the office, most of them will stay at Fullerton Hotel. After-work drinks will be at Post Bar, where we unwind with a drink or two.
We took the lift and headed up to Lighthouse.

Transit at level 7 to another lift that takes you directly up to Lighthouse.

The numerous F&B awards being presented to the restaurant.
The Lighthouse occupies the exact location where a beacon used to guide the world's mariners to the safety of Singapore port in the 18th century. Today, it offers a lovely ambience, overlooking one of the most mesmerizing view of the city skyline. It was a pity that we couldn't get seats near the window :(

We were placed at the other side of the restaurant, overlooking the nearby buildings instead of a waterfront view.

White & Red wine glasses, but I wasn't in the mood to drink that night.

Instead, I ordered a large bottle of sparkling water much to Leecher's displeasure, haha!
The waiter came round with a basket of assorted breads.

Le Capesante, meaning scallop in Italian. This was scallops baked in their own shell with citrus garlic butter, tomato confit and black summer truffles. I could smelt the truffles before the dish even arrived at our table! The cheese was extremely good as well, but too small a portion to share.
Next, we had something light to cleanse the palate before the Il Primo.
We both had pastas for our main course. Based on Leecher's online research, he ordered I Tagliolini (homemade egg tagliolini, marsala sauce, goose liver, black summer truffles) while I went for Le Linguine Primograno (linguine tossed with garlic, seared rock lobster, tomatoes, fine herbs and lobster bisque).
Ended the meal with an all-time Italian dessert ~ Classic Venetian Style Tiramisu. This had a thick and creamy texture, which proved too heavy to consume alone.
Thankfully, I had Leecher to share this with me.

Sneak a shot while I was in the toilet, lol!

Chocolates to end the meal on a sweet note :)

Since we didn't have a panoramic view in the restaurant, we headed down to level 7 to enjoy this view.

Initially, we wanted to head for drinks at Post Bar. After checking our watches, we decided that it would be better to head home and rest instead. Age is definitely catching up when you feel tired at 9pm, lol!

Pique Nique

Tucked in a corner of Takashimaya Shopping Centre (where McDonald used to be), is a cafe known as Pique Nique. Pique Nique means "picnic" in french but I was more attracted by the deco, which reminded me of a french cottage.

Pique Nique is yet another brain-child of Chef Pang. Yes, the same guy behind Antoinette. Well, I must agree that Antoinette is the more famous sibling :)

While Anotonette was decorated in elaborated French pieces, Pique Nique gave a down-to-earth vibe. It almost felt like dining in a French cottage, except that you are looking at people munching on KFC across the walkway.

Leecher spent a long time looking through the menu, hovering b/w pastas and mains. Despite the French deco, Pique Nique serves mostly American comfort food, along the likes of Burgers, Hot Dogs, Mac & Cheese etc.

I flipped through the menu & already decided on what I wanna have.
Chocolate Milkshake ($8). This was extremely rich & thick. In fact, I was full from this drink and couldn't finish my food later, lol!
We had a "window" seat, looking across KFC.
Leecher sitting on the armchair #likeaboss.
In fact, I would recommend sitting at other tables instead for the arm chair is rather small. I had to squeeze into the arm chair with my bag on the side. Rather uncomfortable experience.

Hot Chilli Meat Fries - Pique Nique's fries with hot chilli meat sauce and home-made cheese sauce ($11).  I feel that this was a tad pricey, given the serving size. In fact, they didn't inform us that my order came with fries. We had to pack the rest of the fries back.
The Swiss Shrooms Burger - beef patty, sauteed mushroom, Swiss Gruyere cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato ($13.80).
The Roasted Chicken and Mushroom Mac & Cheese - elbow macaroni, mascarpone & gouda cheese, roasted field mushroom & Cajun style roasted chicken leg ($16). This was quite bland, pale in comparison with my fave Mac & Cheese at White Rabbit. Nevertheless, this dish was packed with chicken & mushroom which made it enjoyable. I would recommend to order this for sharing though.

I'm guilty of over-ordering this time round & Leecher had to stuff himself silly (nearly bursting out of his shirt, lol!). As much as I love to order desserts (since its a separate stomach), I didn't want to be greeted with glaring eyes from Leecher.

Grab some goodies on the way out if you fancy.
There is a supposedly 15% discount when paying by Citibank CC. We were bluffed when the cashier told us this discount is not applicable on eve of Public Holidays & Public Holidays. So, we had to pay the full amount - not that we are complaining, but this is the first time that I've come across credit card discounts not applicable on certain days. Anyone have the same experience before?
