Father's Day

An eventful weekend - celebrating both Xiufeng's bdae and Father's day!

Xiufeng's Bdae

Been quite a while since we last had a double date, so Roger & Xiufeng plus Leecher & me went shopping for Xiufeng's bdae present - which she got a Agnes B bag (so sweet!)

Afterwhich, we walked to Purvis Street in search for Ms Clarity Cafe, but blur me forgot that they don't open on Sundays, so we had to de-tour back to Seah Street for Vietnamese food :)

The bright cheery orange decor will surely make patrons very happy. We had a couch to ourselves - yippee! Of cuz, the usual cam-whoring while waiting for the food to come ...

Presenting the brothers - think they will make very good spokeperson for the restaurant - must hold the menu and take pics, haha.

The pretty girlfriends, hahaaha ...

Roger ordered the drip coffee (which brews and drips the coffee, but be careful of handling in with bare hands, extremely hot) which he claimed was quite refreshing. I quite like the container though, looks interesting :)

Leecher strongly recommended us to try this dish - which is their Vietnamese rolls. Only order this dish if you like the mint leaves hidden inside. I nearly puked mine out when I took a bite and the strong gush of mint went through my mouth.

Next, we had spring rolls, yummy! Loved this dish after the nasty fright from the Vietnamese rolls. The rolls are fried to perfectly and it's not oily at all. You can eat it as it is or dip into the sauce for the extra frangrance.

This is one of the must-try dish - grilled pork chop with egg & rice. Love the chewiness of the pork chop.

The must-try in every Vietnamese restaurant - Beef noodle soup. The beef is really chewy and tender and the soup is full of flavour, one of the best that I ever tried. I ordered the spicy version while Roger tried out the orginial and we concluded that both versions are equally nice.

"Flowers" cake for her bdae, totally dig the flowers on the cake!

On a separate note, we came across this minature car in the carpark - it was so cute that I just had to snap a picture of it. This car just bears the essentials and nothing fanciful, but I wonder where can we buy this in SG? I can totally imagine myself driving this car :)

Father's Day

It's Father's day, so it's time for another round of feasting @ Soup Restaurant.

As there were 7 of us, we need to wait for 15 mins, since the restaurant only has 3 big tables >_<'' Leecher trying to act arty-farty ...
while I almost burst out laughing taking this pic, cuz he was trying to make funny faces behind the screen

Ok, enough of playing - we should be ashamed of ourselves while this couple is seriously studying the menu and thinking of what to eat :)

Back to our cheeky-selves again. The restaurant gives the 大红灯笼高高挂 feeling, due to the red lights used.

Not forgetting the star couple of the evening :)

The Begger ribs - Tender, lean pork ribs stewed with their special sweet & smoky sauce served in a 'beggar bowl'. Another unique poor man's dish originated from Samsui of Canton.

Teochew preserved black olives mixes with plain rice. Black olive is known to stimulate appetite and aids in the process of slimming. (Oh, no wonder Leecher ate quite a fair bit of the rice)

When eating at Soup Restaurant, of cuz must order the Samsui Ginger Chicken. The whole chicken is steamed-cooked for a pre-determined duration and temperature, thus, maintaining its rich chicken aroma and taste. The art of consuming "Samsui Ginger Chicken" is by dipping the chicken into ginger sauce and wrapping them with fresh lettuce.

My small stomach almost burst from all the feasting - 3 hrs after we had our Vietnamese fare. However, it's all worth it, cuz eating is my middle name, hahaa :)

Waraku

We are back at Waraku again! This place really serves some serious pasta and their thinly crusted pizzas are a hit too, at least for us... (this is quite a belated post)

Always like their plastic food displays, looks so yummy. And the good thing is, their items not only look as good, but tastes good too.

Blamer keep wanting me to take pics of her recently, wonder is it because she knew she will soon achieved the "Tande" look and wanted me to capture the last few moments of her with her long hair.

Anyways, since she was so happy taking pics, reckon I shld take some happy pics too!

Blamer's order and how it looks like on the menu. Chicken & mushroom in curry soup. Very tasty dish this is.

My order, decided to try a different sauce this time. Usually, I'll just go for the olive oil base, this is spaghetti in basil sauce.

Of cos, must try a special flavoured pizza as well, Bacon & Kimchi! Although I wonder why they spelt the Kimchi as Kimchee?

Our very cute dessert. Ha ha. The biscuit is really crispy, although it bland. Blamer dun think tat it's very nice but agrees that the presentation is very cute.

Last but not least, she keep coercing me to take this full body pic of her. So reckon I shld at least post it up. Wa ha ha ha.

Hong Lim Food Complex (Part 1)

This is my fav place to eat whenever the weather is cold and I want a place without air-con. (also whenever Blamer pull stunts and pang sei me last min for her flings).

It serves decent hawker fare at really good prices. But of cos, u must be able to hunt down the few famous stalls here.

No 1: The Wanton Specialist Shop

This shop is located on the second floor. There's actually another wanton stall selling exactly the same items but dun be mistaken, look out for this sign board for the authentic stuff.

The mee is very springy, char siew is sweet, not too fatty. The sauce is the dark type, which I prefer compared to those that depends on the chilli, if u know wat I mean. For some noodles stall, if u order the mee without chilli, this translate to mee with just ketchup sauce. (so unprofessional) In my opinion, good noodles stalls shld have their own special sauce, and the chilli is just a condiment. (like this stall.)

The wanton soup. Sad to say, the wanton is just so-so only. Overall, a decent wanton stall.

No 2: Tuck Kee Sah Hor Fun

This shop is also located on the second level. It is a corner store with a bah chor mee stall beside it. Can't miss it for it always has a long time during lunch time.

I always order the prawn with crayfish hor fun. However, they do have other combination like dumpling with prawn. Just prawns or just crayfish. Or chicken with prawns or crayfish. I think the sauce is superb and the prawns are really fresh. Can't really say about the crayfish though cos sometimes I dun think they tasted that nice. The serving is generous and the size of the crayfish is pretty decent too given the price.

No 3: Hong Kong Pork Rib Rice

This store is again on the second level. (strange all the great tasting stalls are at the second floor so far) According to the sign board, the owners are selling authentic Hong Kong style steamed rice. Blamer usually orders the pork rib rice shown below:

The rice is always so savoury and the pork ribs fragrant, soft and succulent. Definitely will leave u craving for more.

For me, I quite like the chicken and mushroom rice, 'cos it is easier to eat without all the bones.

Looks almost the same as the pork ribs rice hor.

However, a must-must order item from this store is their soup!

Soup is cooked with black-eyed beans, groundnuts, chicken feet and dates. All natural, u can't taste anything else but the wholesome goodness of all the ingredients brewed for hours to perfection. Yummy!

No 4: The Old Stall Prawn Mee

Just the sign broad alone is enuf to make me wanna try their mee at least once. Offers the common prawn with pork ribs mee, or the prawn with pig's tail mee. (sometthing which only YZ would eat)

For me, the most important factor that distinguishes a good bowl of prawn mee is the soup. This stall ok lah, the soup is quite tasty. So far, only the prawn mee stall at Chomp Chomp (previously from Adams Road Food Centre) has managed to really wowed me. The other wow factor is that they allow you to have second helpings of the soup without extra charge!

That's all for this post. Think I will have many more opportunities to snuff out more of the goodies here (since Blamer will continue to fly me kite now and then), so stay tuned for more : )

Dinner @ AMK

Our usual weekly dinner affair @ S11 Ang Mo Kio ... have to start preparing Leecher with eating outside food, if not, he will have difficulty coping in the future since I don't cook, hee hee ....

Before setting off to the destination .... wa ha ha, finally I got my good hair day :)

Decided on Western food this time round - but wait only if you can afford to wait, cuz this stall really enjoys good business. We waited close to 35 mins for our food to arrive.

Ordered satay while waiting for the food to come ....

Finally, the food have arrived! Leecher's chicken cutlet (wow, amazed by the huge portion! He couldn't finish it - so means it's really HUGE)

My pork chops! The sauce is great, Leecher kept snatching my sauce to dip his fish into (see, his leeching instincts @ work again)

We both ended up with a bloated stomach,
