KL Business Trip, April 2012 P1

A brand new month, the start of the 2nd half of the year. After several posts on Bangkok, I had to switch destination & blogged about KL instead. The only times when I traveled to KL on personal time were road-trips with bros & sis. We had our annual getaway to KL in 2009, then continued in 2010 (P1, P2, P3 & P4). Other than that, it was always work in KL - attending seminars and meeting clients.
For this trip, I travelled to KL via Air Asia, as I couldn't get flights on SQ and I had to be there for a last minute meeting. In fact, I was surprised at the self check-in kiosks - certainly saves time in checking in! My 2nd encounter with the self check-in kiosks was during our BKK Nov 2012 trip, where Leecher had a chance to have some hands-on experience, lol!

Going there on a day trip, so traveled with just my 2 bags - laptop & personal bag. I often lament that we should have lighter laptops to reduce our "baggage". Still praying that I'll be able to get new laptop allowance this year & finally change my heavy laptop.
Breakfast @ Coffee Beans, which was surprisingly yummy! Great way to start my long day :)

Dinosaurs theme for the month, where the main lobby transformed into a mini dinosaur land. Spotted a couple (I think 3) of dinosaurs but was rushing for the flight so didn't "request" for a pic with them.
I dunno what came over me, but I started walking over to the D gates when the flight was located at gate C13. Imagine my shock when I turned up at the gate only to realize that it was flying to another destination!

One of the last few to board the plane.

I had the whole row to myself *yippee!*

Spotted, SQ flight that took off in a different direction.
Kinda missed my hair, now that I have trimmed it 2 weeks back. Now it looked so much shorter, not a bob cut, but just shorter and more layered. My curls have gone crazy with the shorter length too!
Preparing to join in the queue for take-off. Fun fact: With more than 6,500 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 100 seconds.

One of the perks of window seat, so I can be occupied with taking pics of the view outside :)

Good enough to make it to Air Asia's website?

Since take the front, must also show you the "butt".

Doing it the budget way!

I sort of panicked when I looked at the foreign surroundings. Not the usual KLIA airport that I remember. I searched frantically for my itineary again, only to realise that I have landed at LCCT, which is their low cost carrier terminal (aka budget terminal). This terminal was built specially to cater to the growing number of passengers for low-cost airlines, especially Air Asia (Malaysia's first "no-frills" airline).

Check out the rest of my journey in Part Two!

伴 / Companion

No doubt one of my fave songs :)

Carpenter & Cook

After our disastrous dinner at Kim's Family Korean Restaurant, we walked down to Carpenter & Cook for desserts. I have been wanting to visit this little vintage cafe! The place is filled up with vintage furniture that the owners painstakingly collect from all over UK. For vintage collectors, this is the place to get some pieces for your collection. For the foodie & photography enthusiasts, indulge in their pastries and you'll be surprised to find that every corner is so picture-worthy!

The place was crowded when we arrived. Thankfully, we managed to grab a table at the back of the shop.
I spot a couple of tea cups that I could totally imagine myself sipping english tea in. Leecher seemed to guess my mind and proceeded to order tea for me :)
While waiting for the rest of our desserts.
Latte ($5) for the guys, which they claimed they won't have problems sleeping later.
Tarts were mostly priced at $6.50. We ordered chocolate sea salt caramel (my fave!), passionfruit meringue and lemon cream. We polished them off - the tarts were oh-so-good. Firm and buttery crust with generous fillings. I almost cringed at the sourness of lemon cream, but that made all of us wanting to have more! Kenneth even ordered 2 more for takeaway to let Meiqin try.

I was tempted to go around the shop taking pictures of the vintage items, but was kinda shy to do so in a full-house environment, lol! Needless to say, I know I'll be back for more of their offerings :) Till the next visit!

BKK Work Trip, March 2012: Home Sweet Home

***********
I do enjoy traveling. As often as I say work trips are always different from personal trips,  I'm extremely grateful that I landed myself in a job that allowed me to travel :) Counting my blessings that I'll be able to venture into more regions soon! Before we usher in the weekend, here is the final post of BKK work trip.

After a hearty lunch at Another Hound Cafe, I met up with Roger at Black Canyon Coffee (Platinum Mall) for a quick coffee session before I head to the airport.

He had extended his trip to rest & relax for a couple more days in BKK.

My 2nd glass of thai ice tea within 2 hours. You can probably tell that this is my standard drink in Thailand. Thai ice tea tasted differently across Thailand as well, depending on the type of sugar/milk used.

In Thai restaurants, thai ice tea is served in a tall glass. When sold from street & market stalls, it is more typically poured over crushed ice in a transparent bag or tall plastic cups. To me, it doesn't matter as long as it's good!

On the way to the airport. I normally leave for the airport 3 hours before actual flight time, as we all know of BKK's horrific traffic jam. I tend to leave slightly earlier if my flight is on Friday evening, as the traffic jam starts early for many of the city dwellers will leave work earlier to begin their drive back to their home town.
Taking the highway, passing by the 1st toll.

Baiyoke Tower with its recognizable "Joy is BMW" advertisement from afar.

Some of the car-shoots that I took along the way.
Traffic starting to build up. Sometimes, I even see policemen on the highway directing the traffic to ease congestion. It was smooth traffic to the airport after we passed the 2nd toll. In fact, I fell asleep at the back of the car & the driver woke me up when he asked which airline I'm taking.

One of the airports that I normally frequent, besides Changi Airport & KLIA.
Waiting for check-in only to be notified that the flight will be delayed :(

With the delay in flight, that technically meant that I had close to 3.5 hours to burn in the airport. I walked around the main hall area, took a few "touristy" pictures like the above. Time checked - only 30 min had passed.

Headed for a meal to satisfy my mama-mee craving, watched some drama till I had to conserve my battery for the way home. Time checked - 1 hour passed.

Straight to Chanel for some retail therapy. Had to force brainwash myself not to buy anything as we'll be heading to Europe in a couple of weeks.

Walked into duty-free & checked out a couple of items. Tried on several scents for my new perfume, but they just don't seem to fit my taste. Walked out empty-handed too. Time checked - 45 min had passed.

Strolled my way to departure gate for the flight.
Home sweet home, soon!
