Aglio Olio

Recently got to know of a pasta place near my office that sells some decent pasta.

They offer value for money set dinner and lunch too. We ordered the set lunch for two which consists of two mains, soup, garlic bread, chicken wings side dish and drinks.

Blamer taking a pic off the mirror while waiting for our food.

Here comes the soup, I think this was chicken and corn soup.

The garlic bread was hot and crispy, but nothing to shout abt with regards to the garlic spread on the bread.

Yummy deep-fried chicken wings. Always tasty when they are piping hot!

My seafood olio. Very generous on the seafood and I must say they were really fresh too. One unique feature of this restaurant is that they will let you choose the degree of spiciness for your pasta ranging from mild to normal to very spicy. I think both Blamer and I stopped at normal.

Blamer's chicken olio. Not as impressive as mine ya?

Oh and this restaurant got a good marketing gimmick too. They gave us free $10 vouchers that can only be used to for dinner.

So here we are, back at night for dinner. (cheapo us want to use up the vouchers, dun waste right?)

A pic of Blamer, dressed for the night?

This time we tried their pizza and fried rice. Both seafood, both superb! By the way, I still have their loyalty card which entitles me to free chicken wings. Anybody game for lunch?

Xin Wang Cafe

Before Blamer and me embark on our Hong Kong trip, HQ jio-ed us for brunch at Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe for a prelude to the fare we will be having in due time.

By the way, this is a 24 hrs outlet, hence u can even come here late at night for supper. Located next to Kovan MRT.

Their menu: very Hong Kong-ish right? Featuring one of their oldest mode of transport, the tram. Personally, I think this is a very environmental friendly way to travel, since the tram runs on electricity.

HQ ordered their porridge cos his wife was feeling a little under the weather.

My choice of black pepper chicken chop with spaghetti.

I really loved the the lime juice that came in this chic looking container.

Finally the late-comer arrived and she ordered a few more side dishes like the glutinous riceballs she is holding.

And the siew mai, both tastes good, worth a try if u ever visit the cafe.

By the way, HQ bought the new Samsung Omnia phone which allows him to combine photos together. Note the faces of him and his wife, below are images which may cause some discomfort, proceed with care.

Just to show case what they think their future children might look like... ...

Just for laughs hah, of cos their children will be more beautiful... ...

Small eats around our office

As I was looking through the pictures in dent dent, I realised that there were quite a couple of random food pics that I took during lunch time and didn't have a chance to post it (either the pics were too little to justify an entry or I couldn't think of a suitable topic for it). So, I decided to lump all the pics together, haha...积少成多.

1st stop: 松发肉骨茶

Think it was Leecher who brought me here ... how come he knows abt this place while I dun? Must be his secret hide-out place whenever he lunches with his flings, haha. Anyway, I love the 肉骨茶 here. Will always venture out to this place to eat, though it's quite a distance from my workplace.

For once, Leecher had a good hair-day :P Oh, on a random note, he is wearing his "happy" specs today, which he bought using MY money, wa ha ha....

Ordered the 排骨, which costs $5 (small) or $7 (big)

my fave :) 粉肠 ($5, i think) not exceptionally tasty but still acceptable.

咸菜 (can't rem how much it costs). Good to vet up your appetite before attacking on the 排骨.
A meal here can easily costs around $20 for 2 people, depending what you order. The pipping hot soup is what I always dream of especially when it gets cold in the office or raining heavily.

2nd stop: Hock Lam Street Beef Kway Teow

Ventured into this small shop to escape from the scorching sun. Thank god for the air-conditioning!

Leecher trying to get the attention of the waitress. There were 2 helpers around the kitchen area, doing nothing but waiting for the noodles to be cooked (by 1 chef, from what I observed) so that they can serve it to the customers, yet they refused to take our orders for us. Apparently, only 1 is "given the privilege" of walking around to take orders, while the others just stand and wait for the noodles. How can that 1 person handle a shop with around 15-20 tables, especially during peak hours?

So, meanwhile, cam-whore :) I actually bumped into someone wearing the same skirt on the journey to the shop. Kaoz, what are the chances man? super suay!

Leecher decided to take a 自拍 pic of us.

Take 1: cannot pass, cuz he says people can see his double chin >_< Take 2: must take from above, so as to cover his double chin, wa ha ha. Got double chin means got lah, cover also no use :P

Leecher's small bowl of beef balls + beef slices ($4.50)

Mine only consists of the beef slices ($4.50)

The serving was pretty small, can gobble everything up within 7-10 mouthfuls. We realised that we were the only ones in the whole shop to eat from the orange bowl (colour indication of small) while everyone else ate from red (medium) bowls. No wonder the waitress gave us a *surprised* look when we told her we wanted small serving.

3rd stop: Chiew Kee Chicken Noodle House

Another eating outlet that I frequent though its quite a distance from my workplace. For the delicious food, everything is worth it!

The "chef" busy at work. We bumped into the The Yang sisters (Yang Libing & Yang Lina) while eating at this shop. As usual, when celebrities frequent any place, the aunties will tend to talk.

Auntie 1: *excited* that is Li Nanxing's wife
Auntie 2: no lah, its EX-wife

I was sitting pretty near to the sisters (who just came to tabao), so I am pretty sure that they overheard the conversation as well. Paiseh to the max man.

Back to the food topic, here's our feast for the day

油鸡, enough for 2 people. I totally swear by this chicken, even the breast-meat is very soft and tender.

Noodles to go with the chicken

Leecher ordered the guo tiao instead

SOP: pose with the food before eating :)

This meal costs around $10.50 for 2 people. Slightly on the high side, but its totally worth it for the tender chicken. There is also the dumpling soup, which has bits of water chestnut added to its for crunchiness.

4th stop: Duck rice (somewhere along Circular Road?)

I was having cravings for kway chap, so ventured to this shop. However, it was already quite late (1.15pm very late meh?) and their kway chap was sold out :( So have to settle for duck rice instead.

Duck meat, which was decent though not very fantastic.

This meal costs around $13 for 2, if I recall correctly. Think I shall stick to their kway chap next time.

5th stop: Hong Lim Food Centre

Yes, this is the food centre that Leecher always hide whenever he doesn't have any lunch kakis. I like the curry chicken noodles there.

$4 for the medium bowl, I think. They have another outlet at MeiXin food court (near market street) but I think the one @ Hong Lim tastes better.

6th stop: Tom yam soup @ OUB Centre

Leecher & I will frequent this place whenever we want to escape from the crowd. It's a small shop located at a corner that sells the same 2 items everyday: Green curry & Tom Yam soup. Costs around $5 and comes with a bowl of rice.

7th stop: The Palace Korean restaurant @ Chervon House

To lunch @ this place, either you come way before 12 noon or after 1.30pm. Anytime in b/w, you will have to engage in a fastest spot-the-free-table game with the rest of the patrons.

See, we reached the place @ 11.30am and the place is like 70% packed with people. Queued for the food and got a 26 tag ;(

Leecher with his 扁嘴. Guess he must be pretty hungry, haha.

Gosh, looking at this pic makes me misses my long hair and also a tell-tale sign that this pic is taken like 5 months ago? busy ma, so no time to load the pics.... heehee

Finally, the food has arrived. To put it simply, it's just instant noodles with the soup base (costs around $6-7/bowl) However, it tastes quite nice, especially if you eat the kimchi together with the noodles. A great way to warm up your body if you're freezing from the cold in the office.

8th stop: Burger King

Once in a while, I will get craving for fast food, mainly for the fries. It's funny how I hate potatoes yet I love fries, ironic rite?

Our orders, fresh from the stove.

Leecher very busy, but he just want me to snap this picture so that our readers will think that he is "doing work", wa ha ha.

Leecher munching on the fries, which is supposed to be MY fries!

Yeah, fast-food craving satisfied!

9th stop: Kopi Hut

Leecher says this is a fave hangout place amongst his colleagues. True enough, we bumped into several of them while lunching there.

The pasta here are so-so, maybe cuz I ordered the dunno-what-chicken pasta that contains the rosemary spice which I loathe totally.

And apparently, this was taken before I tuck into my meal. The pasta here costs an average of $6-7/plate.

10th stop: Claypot rice @ Chinatown

Went to the new chinatown market for the famous claypot rice.

Ordered the chicken, sausage & salted fish mixed combo. Think costs around $8-12. We ordered the small version, but its enough for 2 people. The salted fish is damn salty, pushed all to Leecher to eat, haha. He loves salty stuff. I like the chicken and the best part is, you can control the amount of black soya sauce to pour into the rice. It comes in a separate bowl for you to add it in yourself. However, the waiting time for the claypot rice is quite long (we waited for close to 1/2 hr), so meanwhile, you can snack on satay (as we did) or rojak :)

11th stop: Toast @ OUB Centre

It was Pauline who introduced me to the delicious cupcakes @ Toast. Since then, I have been hooked on their cupcakes and even introduce Leecher to it :P This time round, we're back for the wraps.

The masala chicken wrap (Indian spiced chicken with fresh mango, romaine lettuce & mint) @ $7.50
Leecher ordered the New England Clam Chowder @ $6. Their wraps are really delicious and sharing it with Leecher just makes the food tastes good :)
