Phuket 2010 Day 1 P1

Rem this? I still wanna go back to experience the sun, sand and sea! Let's go back in time to 2010, where we went on a trip to Phuket with EK & Pris :) Booking was all done in 2009 & we set off in Feb 2010! heehee :) It had been quite a while since we traveled with friends, as traveling with friends required coordination, especially so when you're traveling in big groups and over an extended period.

We almost couldn't make it on this flight, thanks to Leecher! He was late and we missed the check-in-baggage time. Then, we had to run all the way to the gates to board the plane, while dragging our luggage behind. We were the last 2 to board the plane, so paiseh! Thankfully we took Silk-Air and there were meals on board - if not, I would turn grumpy due to hunger. And the worst of it all, I had bad hair day! Arg :(

EK trying to get us a cab to go to the hotel.

Then the rest decided to cam-whore while waiting for EK, haha!

Welcome drinks for the hotel. This time round ,we stayed at a boutique hotel along Patong.

Venturing into EK's room first, as our room was still undergoing housekeeping.

The rooms were pretty simple, but it was more than enough for me, as long as the area is kept clean & tidy.

Using the bed-head as a backdrop, good for taking pictures, haha!

OMG! I didn't know the 2 guys were that gay!

We explored the boutique hotel abit more while waiting for EK & Pris to wash up for lunch.

We were staying on the 2nd floor, so stairs were our best buddy, haha! Faster than the lift :)

Using an old TV as a fish-tank, super cool!

Lots of old-school toys that we can relate to! It was like being in the toys-museum.

Leecher checking out the internet to see where we can venture to next.

Felt so relaxed & glad that we had chosen this hotel, as the staff were very friendly and helped us with our bookings.

Leecher's to-do-list was to rent a bike and explore around the area, for the next trip.

Here comes EK & Pris, so off we venture into Patong in search for food.

Walking to a nearby restaurant that was recommended by the hotel staff.

Quite a small restaurant that served thai food @ cheap prices. The place was full of locals & a few foreigners.

Walked back to the hotel to enjoy our complimentary afternoon snacks, haha!

Time to venture out again and this time round, Leecher brought along his new bag, courtesy from the hotel, heehee!

On a tuk-tuk, going to the nearby beach to relax under the sun, sand and sea :)

过大礼 Day

The eve of Bought 双喜 stickers to stick on all the items :)

The baskets that Leecher used to put all the items to 下聘 .

10 cans of pig trotters.

Leecher counting the money for the 聘金

Big packet that symbolized the importance of my worth in his heart, lol!

All the stuff that we prepared!

Holding onto the red packet! He was so scared of misplacing it.

Packing the items into the basket. They were so heavy that Leecher had difficulties carrying them the next day.

******************************
After days of preparation, it was finally the day for
Stuff that I brought back from our place for the occassion.

Leecher finally arrived!

He had to make several trips up and down to carry all the items.

Together with his 小舅妈,who happened to be mummy dearest's classmate in sec school! Small world indeed :)

Stepping into the house at the auspicious timing, haha!

大姑姑 came to my place early to help out as well. Glad the day went well and it was a mad rush delivering all the cakes to my relatives. Delivered all the way from morning till night!

*********************

Finally, the bananas turned ripe (after almost 1 week) and we had to eat it! Not a fan of bananas, but then still have to eat for the 2 of us.

Wedding Cakes

We decided to have both traditional teochew biscuits & modern cakes as part of 过大礼.

We ordered our tradition teochew biscuits, commonly known as Wu Se Tang 伍色糖 from Gin Thye Cake Maker. They have been around since 1964 and extremely popular at specializing in traditional wedding cakes.

伍色糖 are traditional wedding gifts from a Teochew bride to her relatives and it consisted of dou sha bing, ming tang, dou run, dou gong & lao ma gao.

For the western cakes, we went to Pine Gardens, one of my fave neighbourhood bakery.

Cake collection!

The set consisted of 9 mini cakes in their signature flavours, which includes tiramisu, lychee martini cake (their best-selling item), cheesecake, orange apricot blossom cake, strawberry shortcake, triple layer chocolate cake (my fave!), citrus drop, black-forest and raspberry chocolate cake. All my relatives were full of praises for the cakes & we were glad that we went ahead to order from Pine Gardens :)

Items for 过大礼

The wedding journey continues with our 过大礼 preparation! We chose our 过大礼 to be on a Sat - in accordance to our fengshui booklet which Master Long has given to us.

In fact, Master Long provided us with a booklet of auspicious dates for 3 years according to our ba zi, so we basically looked through all the dates and decided on dates for 过大礼, 安床 and actual day. We went to Chinatown and purchased stuff for the 过大礼.

We basically walked from our workplace to Chinatown, in search of a few recommended wedding shops that we gathered from the forum. We finally decided to purchase our stuff from Jia Jia Wedding Items, located @ Chinatown Complex.

The lady boss was quite friendly and explained the customs to us, so that we are aware of what needs to be bought and the meaning behind those items.

The lady boss even offered us props for pic-taking.

She used the basin as a shopping "cart" for me, and calculating the cost of all the items that we purchased. Not forgetting to throw in a few packets of ang-paos for us! Such good business tactics definitely go well with the ladies, haha!
